Instrument Rating Training

Instrument Rating Training

After receiving a private pilots license, a great next step for someone with an aspiring aviation career is to begin flight training for an Instrument Rating. In our program, we start by introducing basic instrument maneuvers while simulating instrument conditions. This is done by wearing a view limiting device we call foggles. Once the basics are covered, we introduce how to file an IFR flight plan. This will give students the ability to fly through the clouds with their instructor. Instrument approaches and how to perform different types of holding procedures are a key part of the next step of instrument training. It will also give students a chance to make radio calls with air traffic controllers working at major airports near our area, including Pittsburgh and Cleveland. The last part of our instrument training introduces IFR cross country planning. We make sure our students are comfortable planning, filing, and of course flying every step of the IFR process.
